  • How to Show FPS in Every Game | FPS, GPU, CPU Usage

    Software Used: MSI AfterBurnner

Why Use MSI Afterburner for FPS Monitoring?

MSI Afterburner is a free tool that’s perfect for gamers. It overclocks your GPU if you want, but its killer feature is the on-screen display (OSD) via RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS). This shows live FPS, CPU/GPU temps, usage, and more—right in-game, without alt-tabbing. It works on every game (DirectX, Vulkan, OpenGL), unlike some platform-specific overlays.

    What You’ll Need:

    • Download MSI Afterburner from the official MSI site (it’s free and safe).
    • A Windows PC (it works on NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPUs).
    • No admin rights needed for basic setup.

    Step-by-Step Setup:

Install MSI Afterburner: Head to the MSI website, grab the latest version, and run the installer. During setup, make sure “RivaTuner Statistics Server” is checked—it’s essential for the overlay. Launch Afterburner after install.

Open Settings: Click the gear icon (Settings) in the main Afterburner window. This opens the full config menu.

Enable FPS in the Monitoring Tab:

    • Switch to the Monitoring tab.
    • Scroll down to find Framerate in the list of graphs (it might say “Framerate” or “D3D11/VLK/OGL” based on your game).
    • Click the white checkbox next to it to enable monitoring.
    • Below that, check the box for “Show in On-Screen Display” (this is key—without it, nothing shows up!).
    • (Pro tip: Hold Ctrl and click other stats like GPU Temp, CPU Usage, or RAM to add them too.)
    • Hit OK to save.

    Configure the On-Screen Display (OSD):

    • Back in the main Afterburner window, look for the RTSS icon (it looks like a monitor) or click the On-Screen Displaybutton.
    • In the RTSS window, toggle “Show On-Screen Display” (or set a hotkey like Ctrl+Shift+O to turn it on/off).
    • Customize: Adjust position (top-left corner?), font size, colors, and transparency. You can even set it to auto-hide after a few seconds.
    • Apply changes and close.

    Test in a Game:

    • Launch any game (e.g., Fortnite, Cyberpunk, or even an indie title).
    • The overlay should appear automatically—look for the FPS number in your chosen spot. If not, press your hotkey or restart the game.
    • Pro tip: If it doesn’t show in a specific game, ensure the game is in fullscreen (not borderless windowed) and check RTSS is running in the system tray.
